I made the initial bit of this painting a few years ago, and recently pulled it out, added a bit more and am calling it done! I feel like the main idea of this piece for me was just sort of an observation of transitions, change, and how tumultuous those times can be. The poem in the upper right of the poem is called “This Dewdrop World” and is a haiku by the poet Kobayashi Issa that was written in the aftermath of his daughter’s death. It reads in English like this:
This dewdrop world
Is but a dewdrop world
And yet…
