There was a trend post-WWII/during the Cold War of getting tattooed in the underarms with your blood type to make getting a correct transfusion easier since while appendages may be blown to bits by atomic bombs (and I guess boring ass normal bombs), the torso would retain this important information, and in a very inconspicuous location. This practice was directly inspired by SS soldiers doing the exact same thing. Fuck Nazis by the way. These articles make it sound like it was something the government was going to distribute, but I think it was more of an endorsement, as the info I have found says these tattoos were given at fairs and circuses, and I believe probably separately from actual tattooing booths. As far as why this fell out of practice, my guess is because it’s stupid and not necessarily even effective. But it IS funny and interesting. Haaaaave a good one ✌️🩸

Y’all didn’t even realize that thirst trap I posted last night was actually the first step in my guerrilla stealth marketing campaign for these @sickleandmoontattoo shirts I made. $25 each. Two color ways with some variation between. Hand printed with love, so each one is its own thing. I also made several variants of the design on mulberry paper if you’re into modern interior design. The third property brother with the Pete Wentz hair said he thinks it will enhance any shared living space. Local pickup only in the TAT CASTLE 🏰 🪡
